Dall'ultima nota della Blizzard sono stati riassunti i motivi per gli ultimi nerf al ramo Frost del DK. Leggendoli attentamente sono rimasto basito, anche se oggettivamente c'era da aspettarsi una spiegazione in questo senso.
Leggendo i motivi uno ad uno troviamo:
1) We added the cast time to Hungering Cold for PvP reasons. It is one of the most powerful forms of crowd control in the game, especially in Battlegrounds, and yet was impossible to prevent.
Mi chiedo sinceramente come si possa pensare di sistemare un'abilità tipo CC di una classe melee inserendo un cast time. In PvP sarà anche OP, ma bastava ridurre il numero massimo di player nemici bloccati. Inserire un CC con time casting per una classe melee vuol dire castrare un'abilità che oltretutto, se interruptata, manderebbe in CD tutte le abilità Frost, rendendo così Hungering Cold pressochè inutilizzabile. Fail.
2) The nerfs to Obliterate and Howling Blast were made because Frost damage was too high in both PvP and PvE. Note that these values were hotfixed -- you shouldn’t see damage drop further when 4.2 goes live.
Qui ci può anche stare, soprattutto vista l'alta scalabilità della spec Frost con i nuovi item della 4.2. Il nerf non è da gridare allo scandalo.
3) The Glyph of Dark Succor change was to keep Death Strike from providing so much healing in PvP.
Anche in questo caso è un fail della Blizzard. Avrebbero potuto tranquillamente ridurre la percentuale di healing del DS anzichè snaturare completamente il modo di giocarsi tale abilità. Invece mamma Blizzard preferisce cambiare continuamente il modo di giocare le varie abilità.
4) The Might of the Frozen Wastes change was a small tweak to help keep one-handed Frost relatively competitive with two-handed style.
Da quanto si legge su EJ doveva essere esattamente il contrario, ma il lato pratico, i test e la conferma dei Top DK mondiali hanno mostrato che in PvE con la 4.1 la spec 2H > DW. Ovviamente la Blizzard qui ha deciso di nerfare la 2H anzichè dare un buff alla DW, ma più sotto forse verrà svelato l'arcano.
5) The Unholy Might buff was to help catch Unholy up to Frost in PvE. Interestingly, we didn’t nerf Unholy damage at all in 4.1, but you can still see a small drop in their DPS because so many talented DKs went Frost. I’d love to have the discussion some time about how close two similar specs need to be before players will play the one that is most fun for them and not the one that does theoretical higher damage. Is it 5%? 1%? 0%?
Questa è una buona notizia per coloro che hanno un certo feeling con il ramo Unholy, ma il buff a Strength (pillar of frost permanente) non è detto che sia in grado di eguagliare spec DW frost, in quanto dall'ultima patch note è stato fixato il comportamento del Killing Machine sui proc dell'off-hand. Infatti è stato annunciato che:
- The talent Killing Machine can now properly be triggered from off-hand attacks as well as main-hand attacks.
Questa notizia dovrà essere verificata e testata in campo, infatti i primi test sul PTR hanno mostrato una percentuale di PPM tra Main e Off indipendente che si traduce in un numero di proc di Killing Machine QUASI RADDOPPIATO il che vorrebbe dire un aumento di DPS notevole.
